I’m just two days into using the Eero Pro 6E, but I felt compelled to share my experience to assist others who might be facing similar issues. I’ve replaced my Orbi R750 system, which I bought in 2021 and used with two satellites. The Eero has its advantages and disadvantages compared to the Orbi.
The main reason for my switch was that, despite the Orbi still providing decent coverage and speed, the stability of the Wi-Fi network has noticeably declined over the past year. After extensive research, I believe the issue stems from the Orbi’s limit of “40+” devices. My home is equipped with 40-50 connected devices due to my smart home setup, and my wife operates a hair salon from home, requiring a guest Wi-Fi network. While the Orbi is rated for that many devices, in practice, it struggles when handling more than 40, leading to frequent disconnections and reconnections. Living in a rural area with poor cell signal makes these interruptions especially frustrating, particularly when streaming content on my 65″ OLED TV along with my $300 monthly cable and internet bill.
As for the Eero, I opted for the three-unit package since it was on sale (I initially purchased the two-unit package but returned it when the three-pack went on sale). One downside is the pricing; while I expected a better deal for the three-pack, it was $350, which breaks down to $116 per unit. If you miscalculate your needs and buy just one unit, it costs an additional $160.
Setting up the Eero was straightforward, all done through the app, so I give it a plus for user-friendliness. However, as others have mentioned, there’s no web login, and without the Eero Plus subscription, the app’s functionality is limited to setup and basic maintenance. I wanted to use the analytics feature to compare coverage with my previous setup, but that requires a subscription—strike one. On a positive note, I could still set up the guest network and other essential functions without the subscription.
Adding additional units was also easy. I recommend using an app like WiFiman to check signal strength as you walk around to determine optimal placement for the Eero units. I’ve noticed that the range and speed drop off more quickly with the Eero compared to the Orbi. For instance, while working in the yard, my phone stayed connected to the Orbi Wi-Fi about a hundred feet from the house, whereas the Eero’s signal diminished at the same distance.
It’s crucial to remember that even with a strong internet service (I have a 1000 Mbps connection), the speed you experience decreases with distance and obstacles. Standing next to the Eero, I get close to that speed, but just a few feet away, especially with a wall in between, it drops to around 400 Mbps. The Orbi provides better range and maintains speed more effectively.
However, the real test is stability. While I frequently got booted off the Orbi, I managed to stay connected on the new Eero network last night, as did my mother-in-law in the in-law apartment—this stability is a significant plus.
For those with multiple Wi-Fi devices, there’s no need to stress over compatibility with the new Eero units. Just rename your Wi-Fi network and keep the same password, and your devices will connect seamlessly, as if nothing changed.
In conclusion, while the Eero 6E may be slightly slower and offer less coverage than the Orbi 750, it claims to support “100+” devices—and so far, it delivers on that promise. I recommend purchasing it on sale, as its features are less comprehensive than many competitors, making the full price potentially not worth it.

It also handles the interference from large metal appliances and bathroom tiles between the main router and the extender effectively. The setup was straightforward. I connected an 8-port Ethernet switch to the main router, ensuring plenty of wired connections since nothing beats the security and speed of a wired connection. However, in today’s wireless world, WiFi is essential for mobile devices, so I encourage everyone to utilize wired connections whenever possible. Overall, I’m very satisfied.

I was experiencing poor speeds and connectivity in my 1500 sq ft home, even with three devices (a 7 as the gateway and two 6e Pro). After contacting Eero support, I found their advice quite ridiculous. They suggested that the devices be placed in the open and 15 feet away from any other electronics. So, are we supposed to have these devices in the middle of our rooms? I’m really disappointed and feel that Eero’s marketing exaggerates the convenience and effectiveness of their products.
After posting a one-star review, I received a call from Marshall at Eero, who guided me through the process of properly setting up my Wi-Fi. Surprisingly, it involved using fewer Eero devices, so I returned one to Amazon. Thanks to Marshall, I’m all set up and saved some money!

I own five of these devices, and their performance is exceptional. Just a heads up: although they advertise a coverage of 2,000 sq ft, the speed tends to decrease as you get farther away from the unit. With overlapping coverage, the performance is impressive, allowing your devices to transition smoothly between wifi points as you move around the house. I’m not sure if the 7e models are worth the upgrade, though. I have these set up in my master bedroom, family room, garage, basement den, and network room. One last thing about adding a new device: the app makes it incredibly easy—just plug in the ethernet, turn it on, open the app, and add the device. It’s that simple!
